If you're using Blink for the first time, have a quick read below to understand some of the fundamentals about how Blink works:
Choose a Browser
- You can use any browser you like but we have found Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari are the fastest browsers for Blink and make Blink look it's best
- If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer you need to be using version 8 or above (we don't support older versions). Plus you may need to make some IE browser settings changes, as the default settings in the browser are different for IE (see below).
- In summary: do yourself a favour and download a good browser that respects web standards: Chrome, Firefox and Safari are all free, links are below:
- Chrome free download link
- Firefox free download link
- Safari (for Windows) free download link
Make a few browser settings changes:
- PDF documents in Blink (such as quotes and invoices) will open in a new browser window as a 'pop-up'. However, by default some browsers will "block" pop-ups which will prevent you from viewing your PDF invoice or quote. When this happens the system will often tell you by displaying a notification in the browser, if you click on this notification it will allow you to make an exception (which you should do).
- You can also make an exception to always allow pop-ups from https://go.thinkblink.com.au, how you do this varies for each browser but simply Google it and you will find the solution easily.
Spell Checker:
- If you want a spell checker then your browser will often have an inbuilt function that can be activated or can be added as an "add-in" or "extension", again this varies by browser and a quick Google search will tell you everything you need.
Don't forget the Edit button & keep Saving:
- If you want to change a text box on a form but you can't type in it - click the Edit button, this will give you write access to the form.
- If you can't see an Edit button then it means you don't have write access to the module - ask your Blink account administrator for access or (if that's you) then click onAdmin > My Details and see the Access Levels tab.
- You need to Save forms when you are finished with them. Just because you have typed in your data it doesn't mean it is saved, be sure to click the Save button.
Don't use the back button:
- Although Blink is browser based you should NOT use your browser buttons (i.e. the back and forward buttons) as this could log you out of Blink.
- Always use the buttons/functions within Blink to navigate around your application.
Search and find your data:
- Many of the search functions in Blink have a similar look, feel and function (see the pic below):
We're tab based:
- Many functions will open in a new tab, the benefit of this means you can have 2 (or more) windows open simultaneously e.g. you could be working on an invoice and open the Client Account in a new tab.
- You can easily close individual tabs using the little cross on the top of each tab (see pic below):
Refresh a form:
- Sometimes you may want to "refresh" the data on a form. This is useful when a yourself or another user has amended/added information that may have updated the data on the form or you get a system notification saying "Updated by Another User". You can update a form by clicking the refresh icon (with 2 circular arrows) in top right hand corner of a form (see pic below):
Scrolling through pages:
- Many lists in Blink will get paged if there are more than 10 items in the list
- A paging bar will appear at the bottom and you can use it to scroll or jump between pages (see pic below)
- Sometimes there are buttons in the bar to perform actions on items in the list (or multiple items in the list) see the "Delete" button below as an example
- To perform an action on a list item you must select the item (or multiple items) and then click the button
Using Microsoft Internet Explorer as Your Browser:
- well we did warn you that you would be better to choose another browser, but if you must use IE then:
- if when you go to View an invoice or Quote or any PDF nothing happens and you are using IE then you need to check following setting
- Go to: Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level then go to Downloads section & make sure all options are: Enabled
